Buying a property in Bristol UK

The city of Bristol is a vibrant place to live in the southwest of England. This cultural hub has a strong maritime history and is now a good place to live, work and study. With property prices on the rise, now could be the right time to buy a home in Bristol.

Properties in Bristol cost an average of £324,161 over the last year. This is up from just over £300,000 in 2017. Most properties that sell are terraced houses, costing an average of £306,467, while semi-detached properties sell for an average of £329,172. Houses with between one and three bedrooms are priced starting at around £150,000, although, in the city centre, you will be lucky to get something for less than £300,000. The most expensive houses in the Bristol area can go for a few million and are mostly large detached houses outside of the city.

Where to Buy in Bristol

Bristol has various types of location available for purchasing property, from urban to more rural areas. Some places are suited to families, while others might be better for retirees, young professionals or students.

City Centre

In the city centre, as with any city, you can expect to pay a premium for property. There’s high demand in the area, but new properties are in development to fill that demand too. Most city centre properties are flats, making the area best for single professionals and students.

St George

If you’re looking for somewhere you can get more for your money, St George on the outskirts of the city could work for you. It’s an up-and-coming area where you can enjoy places to eat, plus a park with tennis courts, a lake, skate park and children’s playground

Clifton

Clifton is one of the most sought-after areas in Bristol. The village is pretty and, of course, there’s the famous suspension bridge. You can expect to pay above average for properties in Clifton, but it benefits from places to eat and drink, as well as independent shops.

Totterdown and Temple Meads

Totterdown was originally constructed in the 19th century to house railway workers and is now a colourful area with a quaint feel. It’s close to the city centre, just over a mile away, making it possible to walk if necessary.

Leigh Woods

Leigh Woods is located on the other side of the Clifton Suspension Bridge and offers a greener place to live. Further away from the city, it’s quiet, but there are still restaurants, pubs and other amenities to enjoy.
